Art is for Everyone

Child Code of Conduct

Introduction

At Art S’Cool, we want every session to feel safe, supportive, and enjoyable. This is our shared space for making, trying, and learning together.

We can all help make Art S’Cool a positive place by following these simple guidelines.

1. Safety First

To keep everyone safe:

  • Always listen to your teacher and follow instructions.

  • Only use equipment when you have been told it is okay.

  • If you notice something unsafe, or if someone is hurt, tell a member of staff straight away.

2. Being Kind and Respectful

We expect everyone to:

  • Be kind to others.

  • Respect personal space and keep hands to themselves.

  • Use thoughtful and respectful language.

  • Understand that bullying or unkind behaviour is not acceptable.

We also respect each other’s work by not touching or changing someone else’s artwork without permission.

3. Try Your Best

At Art S’Cool:

  • You are encouraged to try your best.

  • It is okay if things feel challenging.

  • Mistakes are part of learning and help you improve.

This is a space where you can experiment and grow.

4. Looking After Materials and Space

To keep the studio running well:

  • Use materials carefully.

  • Help tidy up your workspace.

  • Return tools and equipment after use.

5. Behaviour in the Studio

We expect behaviour that helps everyone feel safe and able to work:

  • Listen to your teacher.

  • Follow instructions.

  • Be mindful of others.

If behaviour becomes unsafe or stops others from enjoying the session, it will be addressed.

Behaviour Management

We understand that sessions can be exciting, but everyone needs to feel safe and respected. If behaviour becomes unsafe or disruptive, we follow these steps:

Step 1: Clear Reminders

You will be given calm and clear reminders about the expected behaviour.

Step 2: Time Out or Temporary Removal

If behaviour continues:

  • You may be asked to take a short break from the activity.

  • Unsafe physical behaviour (such as hitting, kicking, or biting) will result in immediate removal from the activity for the rest of the session.

  • Parents or carers will be informed.

Parents may also be advised that repeated behaviour could affect continued participation.

Step 3: Final Warning

If behaviour does not improve:

  • Parents or carers will be contacted.

  • A clear explanation of the situation will be shared.

  • A final warning will be given.

Step 4: Leaving the Programme

If behaviour continues after warnings:

  • The participant may no longer be able to attend sessions.

  • No refunds will be provided for booked sessions.

Working with Families

We understand that some children may need additional support. Art S’Cool will always aim to work with families where possible, while keeping the safety and wellbeing of everyone as a priority.

We ask that parents and carers:

  • Support the expectations set out in this Code of Conduct.

  • Work with us if concerns arise.
