  • To engage all children and adults in our local community in a way that inspires pride in that community.

  • To embed an ethos of art learning for life for everyone.

Intent

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”

Edward Hopper

At Art S’Cool, we will paint. We will enrich our students’ learning and enable them to communicate their thoughts, emotions and observations in a practical and expressive way through critical thinking and creative outcomes. We will ensure that all students have opportunities to express themselves creatively and visually. By equipping them with the skills and knowledge to experiment, invent and create their own work, we will challenge and inspire curiosity, fascination and exploratory tendencies.

With a structured but flexible approach that ensures inclusion for all, and the freedom to fully engage with the subject, we will foster creativity, skill development and cultural awareness through balanced and progressive sessions. All students will have the opportunity to engage with diverse and progressive art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, printing and film, using sketchbooks for skill development and exploration, building both technical skills and confidence in their ideas.

As students progress through the sessions, they will be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art. They will know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to culture, creativity and our future. We will ensure our students gain local, national and global perspectives by looking at and researching the work of a wide range of artists from both historic and contemporary periods. Students will understand why artists created their work in the context of culture, events and time periods, whilst considering both significant and lesser-known artworks.

Art S’Cool will ensure that all students make progress and develop a lifelong passion for the creative arts and their importance in shaping our world.

“Art has the role in education of helping children to become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.”

Sydney Gurewitz Clemens
